This review assumes that the reader has read the previous books in Nalini Singh's Guild Hunter series, and does contain spoilers to those books, and in particular, the previous book, Archangel's Prophecy which ended with a cliffhanger. It is strongly recommended to read this series in order.
Time had passed, but Elena and her Archangel Raphael had not risen. The question remained, how would Elena be changed due to the power that had consumed her? Now is the time for emergence, and Raphael and Elena wake. Elena and Raphael may have each other's heart, but the Cascade is causing havoc and changes worldwide. Their wishes, desires, and love may not be strong enough to withstand it. Raphael knows that there is only one choice if Elena is no longer herself, but what she has become might be the only chance to protect the world.
It appears that the Archangel Lijuan is finally making her return. While the rest of the world struggles with the chaos created by the Cascade, an eerie fog and calm has settled over Lijuan's territory. Everyone waits and watches, never expecting the horror that emerges.
Thankfully, Archangel's War begins right where readers need it to begin. Answering the question of what has happened to Elena. From there, it is an intense read. Archangels around the world have to decide which side of the war they are on. This is the most violent of the Guild Hunter series, and a large portion of the book is the war. It will be interesting to see how the world has changed in the aftermath with the next book.
