Archangel's Heart

Guild Hunter - Book 13

By Nalini Singh

Berkley Sensation - November 2016

Urban Fantasy Romance

This review assumes that the reader has read the previous books in Nalini Singh's Guild Hunter series, and does contain spoilers to those books. Due to the complex world building and continuing storylines, it is recommended to read this series in order.

It had only been a few years earlier that Elena's life had changed forever. The day she had met Raphael, the Archangel of New York, who was her heart, as she was his. She was adapting to having become an angel and consort to one of the most powerful individuals in the world. And Raphael was changing too. Not just in his relationship with Elena, but physically as well as his abilities. Nobody ever knew how an archangel might evolve, but Elena and Raphael knew one thing, they would face it together.

A dangerous archangel was missing and her lands were in turmoil, the Cascade had paused, there was an imbalance in the number of archangels with two wanting to claim the same lands, and a reclusive sect of angels, the Luminata, had demanded the entire Cadre come for a meeting. And this was not a meeting where an archangel could send his regrets.

Elena looked forward to visiting with a couple of those who would attend, many, not so much. She knew she had to watch her back, and as a Hunter, she was well skilled at protecting herself and tracking down secrets. Once she is inside those walls, she realizes she will need all her skills. Not everything is as serene as it appears, and Elena is certain eyes are upon her at every turn. As they try to uncover the secrets hidden inside, they uncover one shocking truth after another. But nothing is as sinister as the culminating betrayal they discover.

Archangel's Heart was another compelling read offering fascinating glimpses of the different nuances among the Cadre, angels and vampires. I enjoyed watching the interaction between the various characters, and even better was spending more time with Elena and Raphael, as well as Aodhan - who I hope will soon find his own heroine. The intrigue kept the pages turning and there are new characters who I hope to see again.
