Young Adult Fantasy

It was just one school after another for Percy Jackson. He got in trouble, accidents seemed to happen around him, he didn't get good grades, and his dyslexia and ADD didn't help. All that was nothing compared to what happened after his school trip to the museum. Mythological monsters weren't just the statues he had seen. The gods weren't just in stories he had learned. They were real, and they were after him.

Zeus believed he had stolen his master lightning bolt. Of course Percy hadn't, but it wasn't as if he would be able to convince Zeus, god of the sky. Gods in general weren't reasonable, and actually, neither were many of the creatures, monsters, and who-knew-what some of these beings were. Like most students, he'd brushed aside his teacher's, warnings that his lessons would be vitally important in real life. His quest proved just how accurate his teacher had been.

Percy, and two friends would have to travel across the country, fight monsters, and outwit their enemies in order to find the master bolt and return it to Olympus before summer solstice. Otherwise, warring Olympians could destroy the world.

Rick Riordan has created a fascinating world with his Percy Jackson & the Olympians series. In The Lightning Thief, we meet Percy and are introduced to a hidden world that is around us. I loved his explanation for how Mount Olympus has moved through the years. Although this was a young adult story, I was thoroughly entertained, and look forward to reading more of the series.
