The Summer Share

By Jenn McKinlay

Berkley Romance – May 2026

Contemporary Romance

Hannah Spencer had made a life, and career, of travelling in her van with her Great Dane Dude. She hadn't been running away from anything, but her divorce and other circumstances had made her change her priorities. She was good at what she did, and was proud of her work. But when she learned she had inherited a home in the Outer Banks from her Grandfather, her Pops, she wanted to settle in, learn about her grandfather’s experiences here. She wanted to stay.

Simon O'Malley had come to the Outer Banks when he'd learned he'd inherited his Grandfather's home. He had loved his Gramps, but needed to sell the house to ensure the caregiver expenses for his brother would be settled. Discovering a woman who also had inherited the same house was not a pleasant surprise. Even worse was her insistence to keep the house. Regardless, the will stipulated that they both had to stay at the house for two months to inherit, and so they agreed to share the house for the summer.

They would get to know their neighbors, clean out the home, secrets would be uncovered, truths would be told, and a new romance would grow just as an old one would be revealed.

The Summer Share was an enjoyable romance with plenty of colorful characters I would love to meet in life. Ms McKinlay has created a lively community anyone would want to visit, or live in. I enjoyed the romance between Hannah and Simon and wish there had been a bit more with the relationship shown between Simon and his siblings. Maybe we’ll see a sequel?
