At Death's Door

Dark-Hunter Series - Book 52

Deadman's Cross Series - Book 3

By Sherrilyn Kenyon

Tor - September 2019

Although set in the world of the Dark Hunters, it is a historical somewhat removed from the main series, and can be read out of order from the Dark Hunters series. However, it is highly suggested to read the previous two Deadman's Cross books first as it is strongly tied to them.

Everyone in Valynda Moore's life had betrayed her. Her family hadn't supported her, and the one man she had loved above all others had abandoned her. When her life had been stripped from her, she hadn't had her body to return to. Instead, she was a walking straw doll. A voodoo doll. She was also a Deadman, one of a crew, her new family, who fought evil mere humans couldn't.

But she was also a woman. A woman who wanted her body back, and was being offered that opportunity as long as she agreed to the bargain. All she had to do was take something from someone who hadn't come when she had needed him the most.

This was an easy decision.

At Death's Door starts where Death Doesn't Bargain ends. Two members of the Deadmen crew had disappeared, and we start with the where they are, and why. Valynda knows what she must do, and facing her past and the man who she considered abandoned her is daunting. I have been a big fan of Ms Kenyon's Deadman's Cross series and had been curious throughout how Valynda had ended up with the straw body. Luckily, we don't just learn about her past, but this is a story where she received the future she had always deserved.
