Fiction

The Kamogawa Diner is open for business. Such an unassuming building but holds two fascinating businesses. First, as the name implies, it is a diner, and Mr Kamogawa cooks an amazing assortment of meals. On their client's initial visit, they are presented with an assortment of foods that sound delicious. Then, if they are there for the Kamogawa Detective Agency, they meet with the daughter to describe a meal they’d once had and wished to have again.

There are various reasons they cannot get the recipes themselves, sometimes the person who had cooked for them has died, or a restaurant has closed. There is a vast array of reasons.

As with the previous books, A Serving Of Hope has several short stories, each one with a different individual coming to the diner with the hope of finding a specific meal. The first chapter is their arrival, and learning about the meal. The second chapter is their return and learning of the discoveries. Through these stories, I have enjoyed learning about the Japanese culture, food, and seeing the interactions between Mr Kamogawa and his daughter Koishi.
