Nearly a Bride

Lords of Hazard Series - Book 2

Historical Romance

After over a decade held prisoner in France as a detenu, Rupert Oakden, the Earl of Heathbrook, had returned to England. His father had died with him in France, and his mother had passed while he was away. He had three younger brothers, one he had never even met. Unfortunately, his father had given guardianship to a cousin and he was going to have to go to court to try to win custody of his brothers. He suspected the cousin wanted their property but first he needed to prove he was responsible and capable of handling his younger brothers.

Giselle Bernard and her mother had come to England with less than legal papers. When someone threatened her with knowledge of their fake passports, she knew she needed help getting legitimate papers. She had come to Heathbrook with the hope that he would be able to help with just the papers, but he had a solution to help them both.

Pretend to be his fiancee. Nobody would question the papers of his fiancee, and he would be able to show that he was settling down and hopefully win partial custody of his brothers.

Nearly a Bride was an exciting addition to Ms Jeffries' Lords of Hazard series. Between investigating Heathbrook's cousin, trying to win his brothers back, and protecting Giselle from whoever had been stalking her, Heathbrook and Giselle are continually working to solve one crisis after another. Luckily they don't have to fake an attraction to one another. There had been an interest when they'd known each other in France, but each is determined to continue their own lives. I enjoyed watching them both resolve their personal issues and find their ways to a future together.
