Atticus Saves Lisa

Short Story in Tails of Love Anthology

By Ann Christopher

Berkley Sensation - June 2009

Contemporary Romance

Ten authors coming together and providing short stories for an anthology. Ten short stories with both romance and animals. Tails of Love is an anthology by authors united together with their love of animals in support of an animal shelter.

Cruz Shaw was in love with her. Lisa Evans knew this, even though she didn't want it to be true. She had tried to keep him from declaring himself, but he had been too determined. His unwavering devotion was evident in his gaze and manner for too long for her not to notice, but she had tried to avoid it...him.

Cruz had decided to let Lisa know his wishes and desires. He needed her to look at him as someone other than just her little brother's best friend. It was her brother that was at the root of her wariness. An accident had left him wheel-chair bound, but with the arrival of his new therapy monkey Atticus, he was becoming self reliant. But Lisa was focusing on Keenan's needs to the exclusion of her own, and Cruz had decided that it was time for that to come to an end.

Atticus Saves Lisa delivers an emotional punch. Cruz is a hero oh-so-in-love with Lisa. I was amazed at the intensity that Ann Christopher was able to develop in such a short story. The scene where Keenan and Lisa discuss their past, and future, will stay with any reader, and Atticus adds just the right amount of comic relief. Atticus Saves Lisa is poignant and perfect.

Included in Tails of Love are: Man's Best Friend by Lori Foster, A Knotty Tail by Stella Cameron, Norah's Arc by Kate Angell, The Pursuit of Happiness by Dianne Castell, Atticus Saves Lisa by Ann Christopher, Rescue Me by Marcia James, Lord Hairy by Donna MacMeans, Danny's Dog by Sarah McCarty, Scaredy Cat by Patricia Sargeant, and A Man, A Woman, and Haggis by Sue-Ellen Welfonder.
