The Highlander's Defiant Captive

Historical Romance

Callum Mackinnon wanted to end the feud between his clan and the Drummonds. Unfortunately, his suggestion had not been received with the appreciation he had hoped for, so he had taken matters into his own hands. He had kidnapped the daughter of the Drummond chieftain and once she settled down, he was certain that she would be agreeable to marrying him and ending the bloodshed. After all, her father would certainly be more amenable when grandchildren were involved.

Mhairi Drummond had lived a privileged life, and would not countenance marriage to the oaf who had kidnapped her from her home. Granted Callum did treat her better than might have been expected of a dreaded Mackinnon, but she was a Drummond and would never marry a Mackinnon. She hoped he would come to his senses and send her home, after all, he seemed to otherwise be levelheaded and a good leader. She could even understand why many women would be fascinated with him. Not her. If he wouldn't send her home, she would never cease looking for an escape. But when the opportunity arises, Mhairi is surprised at how difficult it is to actually leave.

The Highlander's Defiant Captive was a fun romp of a romance. Mhairi personifies the title. She will not be taken willingly, nor easily. She continually tries to find escapes. Even when she sees that Callum truly believes this is a noble gesture, she is not easily swayed simply by his looks, charm, or good intentions. She was as valiant a heroine as Callum is hero. And yes, his plan definitely was skewed, but his intentions and treatment of Mhairi were honorable. I enjoyed their romance and hope to return to Ms Campbell's The Laird's Most Likely series soon.
