Declaration of Courtship

Psy-Changeling Series - Book 12b

Berkley Sensation - March 2013

Paranormal Romance

Although I typically put a disclaimer that these stories should be read in order, this short story does stand on its own.

Patience may not be a trait typically associated with a dominant feline changeling, but when he realized she was his mate, Cooper knew he had to be on his best behavior. He might want to claim her the first moment he saw her, but she would have to settle into the den, make friends and strengthen relationships. She was a submissive wolf he would have to stalk slowly and carefully.

But not too cautiously. Grace may be a submissive wolf, but that didn't mean she was a pushover or unopinionated. Luckily, she was welcome to Cooper's pursuit, but her wolf needed to be coaxed, cajoled, and romanced into the relationship. That was perfectly okay for Cooper, for he wanted to give Grace everything that she wanted, and needed. Including himself.

Declaration of Courtship was a wonderful surprise. We had previously met Cooper and his mate Grace, and I was intrigued to see a courtship between a strong dominant, and an equally strong, yet submissive, mate. It was wonderful to see that being submissive means the person simply holds a different position in the hierarchy of the changelings. Everyone feels comfortable with them, but at the same time, they can be determined and headstrong and can, and will, defy their mates and make their own voices heard. Nalini Singh has created such a rich world with an extensive cast of characters, and I truly enjoy these short stories which allow us a glimpse into the lives of characters that we might otherwise miss.
