The Lost Duke of Wyndham
Two Dukes of Wyndham - Book 1
By Julia Quinn
Avon - June 2008
Regency Set Historical Romance
Jack Audley was quite content with his life. He roamed the countryside, helped others in need, and didn't need to return to home and the memories. Granted, he lived as a highwayman, but he was very careful in his robberies. At least he was until the night he was recognized, and his entire life was turned upside down.
Grace Eversleigh knew she should be content with her life. After the unexpected death of her parents, she would have been at the mercy of an unscrupulous cousin, except that the dowager Duchess of Wyndham swooped in to her rescue. Life may not be ideal, and the dowager was a very trying individual, but she was safe, well paid, near her friends, and was able to consider the current Duke of Wyndham a friend.
But was he truly the Duke of Wyndham? Or was the dowager correct that the man that had robbed them, a man who Grace found herself increasingly fond of, was the true Duke? Either way, Grace knew that any feelings that she had for Jack were pointless. Whether he was a highwayman, which he still was regardless, or a Duke, Grace knew there could be no future for them.
Just as Jack knew that whether or not it was proven that he was truly the lost Duke of Wyndham, or merely Jack Audley, he wanted Grace as his wife.
The Lost Duke of Wyndham was a phenomenal read. Not only was it a great story, with engaging characters, but it intrigued me to see how concurrent events will be revealed in the next book, Mr. Cavendish, I Presume. I adored Jack for his love of Grace, and am eager to see how Thomas, the proud, upstanding, honorable, and possibly about to lose his title of Duke, finds love.
