The Holiday Honeymoon Switch

By Julia McKay

G P Putnam's Sons - October 2024

Contemporary Romance

Best friends since college Holly Beech and Ivy Casey were as close as two women could be. The only thing they didn't agree on was Holly's fiance. But if he made Holly happy, then Ivy would be supportive. But when he jilts Holly just before the wedding, Ivy has to be supportive in a different way. Holly can’t bear to go on the honeymoon vacation to paradise, so she suggests they switch.

Ivy headed to Hawaii to use the honeymoon getaway, but when she found the ex-fiance there, she needed a new place to stay. Luckily, she met Oliver, the hotel bartender, with a solution to her problem. The beach house where he rented had an available room. Now she had time in paradise to work on her art. If only she could focus on that and not Oliver.

Holly retreated to the Hudson Valley to heal and relax, but Ivy's getaway she was on was not an all inclusive resort. The eco-cabin rental even required collecting spring water in a bucket. Holly needed the escape, from town, family and friends, to reflect and heal. When she learned the cabin host was Aiden, a former classmate, she was happy to reconnect. But she knows better than to fall for someone so quickly after a broken heart.

The Holiday Honeymoon Switch was two fun romances in one. The chapters alternated between Ivy's and Holly's romances. I truly enjoyed each story. Ivy was a feisty heroine who limited her art to this one annual holiday. Oliver challenges her to chase her dreams. Holly is realizing her relationship with her now ex-fiance wasn't what she had imagined. Aiden allows her to see what a true match is like. I really enjoyed both stories, but one of my pet peeves for any book is present tense. It pulls me out of the book and I wish it has been traditional past tense.
