Hip Check

NY Blades Series - Book 13

By Deirdre Martin

Berkley Sensation - February 2013

Contemporary Romance

Hip Check is part of the New York Blades series, which is also connected to the Wild Hart Saga. However, although there are fun visits with memorable characters from the other stories, each book typically stands completely on its own.

Esa Saari enjoyed hockey. He enjoyed being with women. Luckily, he was able to live his life doing what he enjoyed the most. He was a professional hockey player, and women flocked to him. He wanted to simply keep living his life as he had been, even when he was given custody of his niece. He wanted to ensure Nell was cared for, and cared for well, and when he learned of Michelle Beck, a live-in nanny, he knew she was the perfect solution. She could make sure Nell had everything she needed, and he could continue on as he had.

Michelle, however, had other ideas. She may be his employee, but she had no qualms explaining to him his responsibilities. She dictated how he was supposed to handle certain situations, and gave no quarter when it came to Nell's care. She made him want to become a better man, made him realize he wanted a close relationship with Nell. She made him want her.

Hip Check is a passionate romance between two independent individuals who realize that opposites may attract, and sometimes love is strong enough to bind them together. At the same time, it is a poignant story of a young girl who has lost her mother, then was given up by her next caregiver to an uncle who had no idea how to interact with an 8 year old. Watching their relationship grow into something strong and lasting was just as memorable as the romance between Esa and Michelle.
