Fiction
If someone is looking for a specific meal they'd once had and wish to have again, there is one place they seek. They head to Kyoto to visit the Kamogawa Diner. There, once they've had a meal, they can also meet and discuss their case for the Kamogawa Detective Agency where the chef uses the clues his daughter is given to figure out the how to make the meal their client wants.
Each case is similar, where we see the client come to the restaurant and share their story. Then they return to taste the results of Mr Kamogawa's investigation. It is up to the reader's imagination to decide what the clients do after they leave. For it is not just the food they are seeking, but often answers to issues they haven’t yet acknowledged.
The Menu of Happiness is a compilation of shorter stories each unique and interesting. I love learning more about Japanese culture and foods. In fact, each time I read one of these, I want to head to a Japanese restaurant for a delicious meal.
