A Lady Never Surrenders

Hellions of Halstead Hall - Book 5

By Sabrina Jeffries

Pocket - February 2012

Historical Romance

A Lady Never Surrenders is the fifth and final book in Sabrina Jeffries' The Hellions of Halstead Hall series. Although the story can be read on its own, there has been a connecting mystery that builds as the series progresses. Therefore, it might be best to start with the first story, The Truth About Lord Stoneville.

Bow Street Runner Jackson Pinter had worked many assignments, and was currently investigating the deaths of the Sharpe siblings' parents. None of these cases prepared him for Lady Celia Sharpe's request. She wanted him to investigate three suitors. He didn't need to investigate them. He knew they weren't acceptable. None of the men who showed an interest in her were.

Celia was out of time. As the remaining unwed Sharpe sibling, she needed to quickly marry to meet Gran's ultimatum. She and her siblings had been given one year to marry. Not marry for love or station. Marry. She knew how obstinate Gran could be, especially seeing the happy unions her sister and three brothers had made. She was desperate, and needed help.

She just didn't need the help Jackson Pinter insisted on giving. While trying to prove that she could act ladylike and be what a man would want, the always aggravating Jackson Pinter was always around provoking her into acting, well, like herself.

A Lady Never Surrenders is the final installment of The Hellions of Halstead Hall series. Through the four previous stories, we had watched the sparks erupt every time Celia and Jackson were together. Or when one was mentioned to the other. Or just when one thought of the other. And oh the thoughts they had. But at its core, their thoughts were of mutual respect, admiration, and love. I had been looking forward to this story, to finally see Jackson and Celia find love, and the finally learn the truth of the mystery that had been slowly unraveling through these books. I am only sad that this series has come to a close.
