Rescue Me

Short Story in Tails of Love Anthology

By Marcia James

Berkley Sensation - June 2009

Contemporary Romance

Ten authors coming together and providing short stories for an anthology. Ten short stories with both romance and animals. Tails of Love is an anthology by authors united together with their love of animals in support of an animal shelter.

When Adam Baumgardner rescues a dog, that easily resembles a rat, he takes it to the local shelter. He was simply looking for a place that would help the bedraggled pup. He ends up finding the woman who had haunted him for a decade.

Dr. Claire Mendelsohn hadn't expected to see Adam. She knew that having left the NFL, he had returned to DC and opened a restaurant. It wasn't as though she would go there. She couldn't forget the pain of his ultimatum, and the fact that he had left her.

Adam knew how to work game plans, and he had every intention of not letting Claire out of his life again. He would work every move he had, including her weakness for helping animals, to his advantage.

Rescue Me was a reunion story that I truly enjoyed. Adam deeply regretted his past actions, and yearned to rectify that mistake. He had hurt both himself and Claire. This made him the perfect hero.

Included in Tails of Love are: Man's Best Friend by Lori Foster, A Knotty Tail by Stella Cameron, Norah's Arc by Kate Angell, The Pursuit of Happiness by Dianne Castell, Atticus Saves Lisa by Ann Christopher, Rescue Me by Marcia James, Lord Hairy by Donna MacMeans, Danny's Dog by Sarah McCarty, Scaredy Cat by Patricia Sargeant, and A Man, A Woman, and Haggis by Sue-Ellen Welfonder.
