Dogs & Art is perfect for anyone with a love of art and dogs. For each painting, there is a description of the artwork, followed by information about the breed of dog depicted in the painting. Sometimes for larger pieces, there is a closeup.
The first paragraph provides information about the artist. Their history, impact, friendships and more. Then there might be information about who is in the painting or how the painting was done.
The second paragraph is about the dog breed (or suspected breed) depicted in the painting. We learn about the history of the breed, sometimes what breeds may have contributed to the breed, or if the breed contributed to the creation of new breeds. There is information about what the breed was used for, and the characteristics of that breed of dog.
I learned about Dogs & Art after I had finished Cats & Art and found it to be equally as fascinating and informative. Although I am more excited to see a cat in artwork, I do enjoy admiring the dogs, birds, horses, and other animals. I loved the concise summary Ms Hodge provides. I found myself looking at the picture, then reading the information before returning to the picture to see the points that she made. I highly recommend this book for anyone who loves art and dogs.
