Man's Best Friend

SBC Fighter Series - Book 6

Short Story in Tails of Love Anthology

By Lori Foster

Berkley Sensation - June 2009

Contemporary Romance

Ten authors coming together and providing short stories for an anthology. Ten short stories with both romance and animals. Tails of Love is an anthology by authors united together with their love of animals in support of an animal shelter.

The fact that she found an abandoned puppy was the highlight of Erin Schuler's evening. Not only was she the last person to leave work, but there was a downpour. None of that helped when she discovered that her car wouldn't start. When her brother doesn't answer the phone, that leaves only one person left to call for help. The same person she had been avoiding for the past several months.

Fear could be a great motivator, and it helped Gary Rutledge get to Erin quickly. Once he was certain she was safe and unharmed, Gary turned to another great motivator - his feelings for Erin. He was determined to use this situation to their advantage. Their, being the operative word, because he was equally sure of Erin's feelings for him as he was of his own. And he was not above using a helpless puppy to achieve his goal, of course only after the puppy was cleaned, warm, fed and happy.

Man's Best Friend was a romance between very good friends, and my favorite in this anthology. Gary had been Erin's brother's best friend since they were kids, and their own friendship was strong. Erin, however, didn't feel comfortable with Gary's newfound celebrity status as an SBC Fighter. Gary sought to prove that he was the same man he had always been, a man who wanted her.
