Rebecca Goings' in the Corner

July 2007

When I read, I want to be swept away into another world. One of the greatest aspects of paranormal/fantasy/sci-fi romances is that the story takes you to another world - quite literally. I love to watch fantasy movies, with fantastic special effects. The visuals can be amazing. It takes very talented writers to be able to create the same effects, but only in the readers' minds. I recently came upon a new series by Rebecca Goings - The Legends of Mynos. I was immediately absorbed into this world, and was thrilled to learn that the entire trilogy would be published this year.

Let me ask you this. Do you like dragons, elves, knights, and damsels who may be in distress but who can still kick booty? If so, then please continue reading about this series.

I hadn't previously read any titles by Ms Goings, but I thought that the story The Wolverine and the Rose (Please see my review!) sounded fascinating, and I wasn't disappointed. In this story, Arianna is a farm girl who indirectly is responsible for the deaths of her entire family after she disobeys her father by going into town and helping a stranger. What she doesn't realize is that the man she helped is a Wolverine Knight, Sir Geoffrey. Thus begins the adventure of Arianna, the crystal, a dragon, saving king and country, and, most importantly, love.

Well, as soon as I finished Rose, I immediately wanted to read The Wolverine and the Jewel (Please see my review!). Our hero this time is Sir Sebastian, and he comes across a young woman who has been beaten cruelly. She cannot remember her name, so he names her Jewel after the Jewel she wears. Once again, danger is everywhere, battles are fought, and love triumphs.

Unfortunately, I have not been able to get my greedy hands on a copy of The Wolverine and the Flame yet (Ms Goings actually just finished it). However, I think this would be a good time for the readers to go back to Ms Goings website for the "Free Read" Prequel to this series. The Crystal of Mynos tells the story of the "history" that is learned by the characters in the first two stories. I read this short story after reading Rose and Jewel, and I think that I appreciated it better this way. In a way, it is rather like the Star Wars series. We started the movies with 4 through 6, when good triumphs. If we had started with 1 through 3, how many of us would have continued after we saw so many of the characters we cherished perish? Knowing ahead of time the outcome was better, so it is with this prequel.

So it will soon be time to say a bittersweet farewell to this series that introduced me to the writings of Ms Goings. However, that doesn't mean that she doesn't have several other interesting series available. If you go to Rebecca Goings' Bookshelf, you will see that she has several stories, in various genres. She has Inspirational, Historical, Fantasy (Mynos), Paranormal (2 different series) and Mainstream. You can also find "Free Reads". I asked Ms Goings what she has planned. Here is her response:

Here's what I have coming down the pipeline in the future:

PROMISE ME FOREVER - Champagne Books - August 2007 - Contemporary romance

NATURE OF THE B*E*A*S*T* - Champagne Books - December 2007 - Book III of the paranormal B*E*A*S*T* series

ONCE A DREAMER - Champagne Books - January 2008 - Historical Western

KINDRED - Champagne Books - Late 2008 - Fantasy romance (no connection to Legends of Mynos)

THE WOLVERINE AND THE FLAME - Samhain Publishing - August 2007 - Book III of the fantasy Legends of Mynos series

HEARTS UNBOUND - Samhain Publishing - November 2007 - Book II of the Cursed Hearts series

LEATHER & LACE: HIGH NOON - Samhain Publishing - November 2007 - Historical Western anthology novella

I'm glad you enjoyed my books in my fantasy world. :) "FLAME" ends certain events that have been ongoing throughout the series, however, I'm not saying "No" to more books in this world. There are definitely enough going on to write more series. However, they would be different series, not lumped with The Legends of Mynos. They might be someone else's legends. Who knows...? Perhaps someday, I'll revisit my world. It would be fun. :)

My Personal Disclaimer

Boy Meets Girl, They Fall in Love, and the two of them live Happily Ever After. This is the content for any book I believe is a true Romance Genre novel. The books that I recommend, or have reviews posted for will follow that format, unless I note otherwise. Granted we may know the outcome of a Romance Genre Novel, but it is the journey the characters take that is the reason we read these books. The Happily Ever After doesn't mean they're all vampires... Just means that the future is open to them, even if it is set 500 years in the past - we don't need to know their final chapter in life. At times I have have Recommend Reads by visitors to this site - I cannot guarantee that they meet my criteria for a Romance Genre Novel.
